If you need the control and performance of a dedicated solution but don’t yet
have the volume to justify the cost, let us configure a VM Server solution for
you that may perform better than many low-end dedicated servers.
The Virtual Server solution allows a cost-effective way for clients to simulate
a dedicated server solution at affordable rates. With Virtual Server each
client has an environment that is totally isolated from other clients sharing
the system (
see diagram), thus giving
much of the characteristics of a fully
dedicated solution while offering the cost benefits of resource sharing.
Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 provides virtual machine isolation and resource
management. This allows one physical server to host several completely separate and
isolated operating systems. Each of the “virtual” servers on the
physical server has the appearance and capabilities comparable to running on a
dedicated system. This approach
is often termed a “Virtual Dedicated Server” because its behavior is more like a
dedicated solution than a shared one. Another key difference compared with
shared solutions is that Virtual Server offers more latitude in the range of
applications that can be run than with a shared plan, encompassing almost anything supported by the
operating environment.
ORCS Web has deployed Virtual Server on high-end enterprise servers with
configurations to allow stellar performance for the dedicated VM servers being
hosted. Each server utilizes the high-speed hardware resources of platforms used
by our largest customers. Virtual Server also includes the fastest SCSI drives, hardware
RAID with battery-backed cache, Intel Xeon processors, redundant power, and
gigabit network connections. Plans start at $249/month.
